Walking for Wishes

Team Member(s) Involved: Chloe Kelsch, Joy Olsen & Melissa Lassiter
Cause: Make-A-Wish Foundation

Most of us have upwards of 65 years to complete our bucket list, see the world, have a career, fall in love, grow old and wise. But, some children aren’t given this luxury, and instead face only a few months or years to live. And, with the cost of healthcare, this makes it almost impossible for most of the children or families of these children to fulfill their dreams or even one wish.

This was a reality for IR’s, Chloe. Growing up, her best friend, Jillian Totten, had Cystic Fibrosis—a genetic chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). Chloe was her volunteer care giver at home and when she was in the hospital or at the Cystic Fibrosis Center, spending every spring break and holiday and most waking hours. At the age of 18, Jillian died, exactly 12 months and 5 days after Make-A-Wish Foundation granted her wish of going to the 51st Annual Emmy’s.

After seeing firsthand how the Make a Wish Foundation helps instill hope and joy in the children who are suffering through life-threatening and terminal illnesses, Chloe makes the walk at every chance she gets. And this team she was not alone, with teammates Melissa and Joy by her side.
