The Need: Tempur-Pedic is a manufacturer and distributor of mattresses and pillows made from proprietary TEMPUR® material, as well as the Ergo Adjustable Base. The company was seeking a solution to maintain maximum control of consumer brand interaction within the retail environment, as well as one that would encourage the consumer to purchase their complete system of products.

There is strong, empirical evidence indicating that if consumers lie on a mattress at the point of sale for at least five minutes (Source: Furniture Today), they are more likely to buy and remain satisfied with the product. Studies also show that consumers are highly unlikely, due to the lack of privacy in the retail environment, to lie for any significant length of time on a mattress they may be interested in purchasing.

Inspired by their past success with the Space Cabin, Tempur-Pedic retained our services to design an in-store experience that would inspire the consumer to take the time to fall in love with their complete system of sleep products, including the mattress, pillows and Ergo base.

In collaboration with the Tempur-Pedic marketing team, we designed and developed the Sleep Experience Center (SEC), an environment in which users could experience the Tempur-Pedic sleep system in relative privacy.

The entire SEC experience is eight minutes in length, is very relaxing, and models the intimate feel of a bedroom area. In addition to successfully integrating Tempur-Pedic's brand message as well current branding campaigns, the retail sales associate benefits by having constant access to the Tempur-Pedic brand message through the SEC's digital media applications.

To make this solution a success, we relied on a multi-disciplinary design and execution team to coordinate all aspects of the project. Our solution management group supports and maintains production assets, digital signage, retailer coordination, installation, and service nationwide. A database solution streamlines inventory and retail management.
